ROCKLIN, Placer County — October 25, 2026. The Rocklin Fire Department has been awarded $50,000 from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to acquire emergency vehicle-extrication equipment, the City of Rocklin announced October 14. The equipment, often called the jaws of life, is intended to help firefighters reach people trapped in vehicles after crashes more quickly.
What will the money buy?
According to the city’s official October 14 release, the grant is specifically for new extrication tools, replacing aging rescue equipment. The funding program runs through September 2027, and is supported by OTS with federal National Highway Traffic Safety Administration grant funding. The press release does not specify a completed procurement date, number of tools received or where individual pieces of equipment will be stationed. The award should therefore not be described as proof that new equipment is already in service.
In the city’s announcement, Fire Captain Travis Pistochini said the new equipment would replace older tools and improve rescue response. The department described reducing delays in getting to critically injured crash victims as the central goal, rather than a change to ordinary ambulance dispatch or road design.
A new fire chief took office in September
Separately, the city announced Tilden Billiter began serving as Rocklin fire chief on September 30, 2026. The municipality says he arrived after senior operational leadership roles at the Sacramento Fire Department. He succeeds Reggie Williams, who was preparing to retire in the fall. The leadership change and equipment award are distinct developments; the city did not claim that the new chief caused the grant award.
What residents can learn from the city’s survey
Rocklin’s 2026 community survey summary, published October 12, reported that 93% of surveyed respondents rated overall quality of life positively and 83% rated city services positively. These are survey results, not percentages of all residents. The City also acknowledged affordability and economic conditions as areas for attention.
Residents can consult the city website for city announcements, public-safety updates and upcoming council records. The published City Hall location is 3970 Rocklin Road, with general telephone (916) 625-5000. For an immediate emergency, use emergency dispatch rather than City Hall’s administrative number.
Rocklin News will follow what the grant pays for, when equipment is put into service and future public-safety spending using city documents and independent verification.
